A weekly family worship service is held each Sunday morning at 12 pm in our chapel located at 815 W. Washington Street in Sequim.
Our meetings are presided over and conducted by local members. The primary leader of each congregation is called the Bishop. We do not use a professional clergy, and no leaders are paid for their service.
Children are present and welcome in our congregations. Our church is open to all - you are welcome to come as you are. Our regular members generally wear their "Sunday best".
Church meetings begin with a selected hymn and a prayer offered by a member of the congregation.
In our meetings, we listen to speakers, also from our congregation, that are asked in advance to prepare a spiritual message. Men and women participate equally in worship programs, generally addressing a topic suggested by our Bishop and his assistants. Our young members are sometimes asked to speak too.
The topics vary and are selected based on world-wide Church programs adapted to local needs. An example might be “How our faith in Jesus Christ helps us overcome trials in our everyday lives” or “How daily study of the Holy Scriptures enrich our lives.” We do not discuss politics or other worldly concerns from our pulpit.
While we are edified by prayers and spiritual messages, the main purpose of our Sacrament Meeting is to partake of the sacrament, which you may be familiar with as “the holy communion” or “sacrament of the Lord’s supper.” Partaking of the sacrament weekly provides us the opportunity to remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as he taught it to the ancient Apostles at the Last Supper. We use bread and water as symbols of His body and blood. When we partake of the sacrament we renew the promises we make at baptism -- to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, to remember Him, and to keep His commandments. In return, the Lord renews his promised remission of sins and enables us to have the Holy Spirit to help, comfort, and guide us in our daily lives. Taking upon us His name also means that we bear one another’s burdens, mourn with those that mourn, comfort those in need of comfort and stand as His witnesses.
Normally, the Sacrament service is conducted before the spiritual messages, but because we are offering attendance via the Zoom application, we have adjusted the meeting schedule so that the hymns, prayers, and messages come first, after which the Zoom portion is ended, and then the sacrament is offered to those in physical attendance. If you choose to attend at our chapel, we follow all State regulations. Masks are worn by the congregation, leaders, and speakers, and we practice social distancing by alternating pews and sitting in family groups with adequate spacing.
